The world is a global village now that the internet has made everything possible. Information travels by the click of a button. Traditional means of communication no longer control any of the information accessible to people in this age of social media, blogs, and websites. The film industry is also in the same predicament where actors and actresses become stars overnight from illegal downloads and leaks. Bollywood, the Indian filmmaking hub, has for years been making extraordinary films full of inspiration providing top-notch entertainment. At the heart of the industry is the talented and beautiful Deepika Padukone.
Born on January 5, 1986 in Denmark, Copenhagen, to an international level badminton player father and travel agent mother, Deepika grew up in Bangalore, India. She followed in the footsteps of her father, Prakash Padukone and played badminton on a national level. With a towering figure of 5’ 8” and she left badminton to become a fashion model and walked her first runway at 17 years of age. In 2006, she starred in her first film, Aishwarya and won the Best Female Debut at the 2007 Filmfare Awards for the Bollywood blockbuster film Om Shanti Om. Since then, her star has continued to shine brightly.
The Bollywood superstar suffered from a severe bout of depression, which she shared publicly in 2014. She lamented how little help is available for mental illness victims in India and many other countries around the world. In 2015, she started a mental health care foundation to address issues involving mental health. She has been active in working for social charities and has adopted a village in Maharashtra, India.
In 2016, Deepika became the highest paid actress in Bollywood following the grand success of the film Bajirao Mastani. She received acting lessons by veteran Hindu actor Anupam Kher. She has worked as a freelance writer for the Hindustan Times.
