She was born in one of the most happening cities of the world, New York to Karsten Johansson, a Danish-born architect and Melanie Sloan, a producer and grew up in a simple and middle-class environment. She began acting right from her childhood after her movie-crazy mother started taking her to auditions and made her film debut at the tender age of 9 in the movie, North in 1994. She played the role of Amanda in Manny&Lo (1996) and her brilliant performance won her a nomination for the independent spirit award for best lead female. What caught everyone’s eye was her first-class performance in the film, The horse whisperer, released in 1998.
